But O'Sullivan said it was not realistic to expect the Trump administration's justice department to charge the sitting President.

On Wednesday, THE WEEKLY STANDARD emailed several White House officials to ask if they could confirm or deny CNN's reporting, or provide any additional context that would substantiate McMaster's claim that revealing the city's name wasn't a big deal.

Trump has come under fire following news reports that he shared sensitive intelligence about the Islamic State militants with Lavrov and Russian ambassador Sergei Kislyak during a meeting at the White House.

He adds that the Federal Bureau of Investigation should "provide, no later than May 24, 2017, all memoranda, notes, summaries and recordings referring or relating to any communications between Comey and the president".

The documentation of Trump's request is the clearest evidence that the President has tried to directly influence the justice department and FBI investigation into links between Trump's associates and Russian Federation. Trump made the surprise move of firing Comey, head of an investigation into Trump and his campaign's alleged ties with Russian Federation, early last week.

"Well, I respect the move but the entire thing has been a witch hunt", Trump said when asked about the investigation.

"I wouldn't put much credibility into whatever Putin's notes are", Rubio said on Fox News.

There is an ongoing investigation in the USA into possible ties between members of the Trump team and Russian Federation during the presidential campaign a year ago.

House Speaker Paul Ryan on Wednesday said Congress wants to hear from former FBI Director James Comey about his conversation with President Trump as part of their effort to gather the facts.

Trump tweeted that he has "the absolute right" to share certain information with Russia but also didn't specifically say whether he spilled highly classified information to Russian officials.

Comey writes that he replied to the president: "I agree he is a good guy". "And the acting director just said the other day that no one has tried to impede that investigation", he told reporters at a news conference.
