NY Senate votes to accelerate start of upstate Uber, Lyft

A few years ago, Uber started doing business in Alaska, but by the end of 2014 was blocked by local and state labor rules.

In passing HB 100, the legislature voted against public safety, equality and the rights of cities.

Meanwhile, in his statement on the bill, Fasten CEO Kirill Evdakov suggested that Uber and Lyft only hurt themselves by burning public goodwill with the aggressive campaign tactics of 2016 followed by an arbitrary and punitive decision to pull out of the city.

Supporters of the bill held it up as a victory for limited government.

The Democrat's bill to ban celebratory gunfire in Texas could be in trouble.

Trevor Theunissen, spokesman for Uber Texas, said the company intends to return to Austin with Abbott's signature. Houston and Austin are among the cities that now require fingerprinting and background checks.

Background checks will be required for all drivers and they will be monitored throughout their employment. But how can you feel comfortable with the person who's behind the wheel?

"I am hopeful we can work ... to expand our transportation options without putting our most vulnerable Houstonians at risk", he said.

The bill previously cleared the House, which included tea party-backed language defining "sex" as the "physical condition of being male or female".

The House majority has insisted on a broad-based tax, like an income tax, and changes to oil tax and credit policy as part of an overall solution.

The key to the bill was the absence of a requirement that drivers for ride-sharing companies be fingerprinted as part of their background checks. "Our city should be proud of how we filled the gap created when Uber and Lyft left, and we now must hope that they return ready to compete in a way that reflects Austin's values".

Jessica Geary, finance manager for the Legislative Affairs Agency, said she did not have accurate reporting for extended session costs so far.
