We've all been moaning about the fact we're not getting anywhere near the Champions League or we're not getting anyone winning the Europa League. In truth, that will not be hard regardless of United's fate in the Europa final next Wednesday, such was the shapelessness of what they served up at St Mary's. The closest United came to breaking the deadlock was through Anthony Martial, who struck a post from a curling effort.

"One answer: the reality of the Premier League, the economic power in many clubs".

"Having played 62 games, the rest period between now and playing in that game is massive for his team".

The result had no material impact on United's season, given they were already guaranteed to finish sixth but Mourinho will have been concerned by injuries sustained by Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini.

"I don't think, by themselves, they will be in [the right] conditions to play the game".

"Fellani hasn't got a tear but he's experienced enough to know he had a feeling". Sergio had a very good performance - more than very good. Barring a U-turn from Mourinho, Romero will face Ajax, and was a slightly surprising choice at Southampton.

Manchester United coach, Jose Mourinho, has said he does not expect David De Gea to play again this season, but insists he wants the goalkeeper to stay.

"If they lose it's been a massively disappointing season". He appeared confident and was occupied often, and this was ideal preparation for a far more important assignment in seven days' time.

Following United's goalless draw against Southampton, the Sky Sports pundit said that despite spending huge amounts of money in the summer, it was a hugely disappointing season for United.

"What are they going to do with that? Everybody accepted my decisions and I'm very happy with both of them". The players mirrored their manager's disinterest in their remaining Premier League fixtures.
