The NFL star earned his first ideal scores of the season in night one of the season 24 finale on Monday.

National Football League running back Rashad Jennings and professional partner Emma Slater won the Season 24 mirror-ball trophy, while Ross and pro dancer Lindsay Arnold placed second in the ABC network competition.

But it was round two, the Freestyle round, where Ross hit it out of the park, scoring a ideal 40 out of 40 from the judges' panel that bestowed very much-deserved praise on Ross and Arnold for their baseball-themed, wild ride of a routine.

"People did not expect to see you here", added Lindsay, who acknowledged her partner's been an underdog not just on the show, but in baseball as well. He eventually crawls under the railing in a nod to a similar moment where Ross took some extra time to get out of the dugout and celebrate with his team. He appears happy and at ease, despite his somewhat sloppy footwork. But Judge Julianne Hough criticized her slightly for having a lack of body contact with partner Chmerkovskiy in the quickstep. Judge Len Goodman said she was the most consistent dancer this season. In the end, the DWTS winners were Rashad Jennings and Emma Slater! Jennings played two seasons with the Giants, also spending three seasons with the Jacksonville Jaguars and one with the Oakland Raiders. Someone will be crowned a champion tonight. "I can't take [credit for] anything". The most memorable reunion performance came from the opening number, where all of the pairs from the season shared the stage for a huge group dance. That's why they gave David his first flawless score of the entire season.

Then Kordei and Chmerkovskiy dance to "What the World Needs Now is Love" by Andra Day. It was an emotionally charged performance, but not one of sadness as it truly represented what hope should look like. His freestyle score: a flawless 40 out of 40. For the third time in a row this round, the couple earns a flawless 40/40. And in the second round, all three couples performed freestyle dancing and all scored 40/40.

Clearly, the race for the coveted Mirrorball Trophy is tight.
