Brendan Rodgers last night said he forgave Leigh Griffiths for having appeared to make angry comments to the Celtic manager while being taken off after 63 minutes during the 5-0 rout of Partick Thistle.

Brendan Rodgers' treble-chasing side cruised the second half and Callum McGregor and Roberts added further goals to a put a more realistic complexion on the scoreline.

Rodgers made five changes with Scott Brown back from a two-game suspension and Cristian Gamboa, Erik Sviatchenko, Emilio Izaguirre and James Forrest returning to the side.

Roberts has made 58 appearances for Celtic, scoring 17 goals and registering 20 assists.

Celtic looked hungry for more with Tomas Cerny doing well to palm away a Callum McGregor effort moments later.

"If you go 38 games of a season [unbeaten] with all the games we've had, the level of games, perform like we have done then it's a truly remarkable achievement relative to the time that we're playing in".

However, there was nothing the 'keeper could do to stop them adding another four minutes before the break when Roberts picked the ball up outside the box and smacked an unstoppable shot high into the net past Cerny.

The Northern Irishman embraced Griffiths after the game but addressed the player's dissatisfaction by saying: "For a minute he forgot himself".

"I think for a wee minute he just lost his show of selflessness for the team", Rodgers said.

"This is a team that is selfless".

'But I think you've seen the evolution of this team over the course of the season. I can change it about and the players know I trust them in their work.

"I think everyone coming here would have expected a severe test for us tonight, and rightly so because Alan (Archibald) has been fantastic this season getting his team in the top six and being really hard to beat".

"He was outstanding tonight and he understood I also needed to protect him as the only fit striker".

"It was an outstanding team performance at this stage of the season". They took the feet off the gas at half-time. They can cut you open and play at a tempo and if you let them play at that tempo. we stood off them at key times.

"It was very disappointing".
