Golovkin didn't have to travel far to make the announcement as he watched Alvarez's fight from ringside in Las Vegas.

Chavez Jr. simply had no answers for anything Alvarez did Saturday and put zero effort into getting the ball rolling to turn the tide.

The big news came after the fight, when Canelo announced in the ring that he would next challenge unified middleweight world champion Gennady Golovkin (37-0, 33 KOs) on September 16, Mexican Independence Day weekend. Right now, I think everyone is excited for September.

You know, he just says a lot of things. "The fight is done".

Alvarez vs Golovkin is scheduled for September 16, 2017.

"I wanted to box but he went to the ropes and I just needed to throw more punches". And I've seen a little sliding (from Golovkin). "They didn't want to", said Canelo. "I have gotten calls from everywhere, from Dubai to the United Kingdom where (Anthony) Joshua and (Wladimir) Klitschko just fought".

Alvarez will go into the clash fresh after totally dominating Chavez Jnr for 12 rounds and taking the fight 120-108 on all three cards.

The Mexican devastated Chazez with his speed, power and combination play, to leave the 31-year-old bleeding from his nose and his eye was swollen shut.

Although Saturday's bout might not have drawn as many pay-per-view buys as Mayweather-Alvarez, it was estimated to have exceeded the Mayweather-Alvarez fight on Mexican TV in terms of combined homes it reached (16.9 million, compared with 5.9 million).

"The percentages of a knockout are very high, are very good because of the styles, because of the knockout ratios of both", Alvarez, who'll face Chavez at a contracted catch weight of 164½ pounds, said through a translator.

At 27, Canelo holds a record of 48-1-1, 34 KOs and is already taken over as boxing's number one draw after Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao. But he tipped the scales at 164 on Friday, while Alvarez also was 164.

In response, Golovkin said: "Congratulations".

Golovkin is coming off a unanimous decision win over Daniel Jacobs on March 18 at Madison Square Garden that many felt he lost. The prediction here is that Alvarez wins by easy decision.

"For us, this is the biggest fight in boxing", Golovkin said. "This is unbelievable fight for everyone".

"We restarted negotiating two weeks ago and it got done a few days ago", he said.
