Based on one of the longest-running New York Times best-sellers, The Glass Castle tells the story of Jeannette Walls' unconventional upbringing at the hands of her deeply dysfunctional and uniquely vibrant parents, and her journey towards acceptance and fulfillment. Oscar victor Brie Larson stars as journalist Jeannette Walls in an adaptation of her bestselling 2005 memoir about her upbringing by her dysfunctional parents: her alcoholic father Rex (Woody Harrelson) and her artist mother Rose Mary (Naomi Watts). The cast features Naomi Watts & Woody Harrelson (as her odd mother & father, respectively), Sarah Snook, Max Greenfield, Brigette Lundy-Paine, and others. "Their parents followed them, choosing to be homeless even as their children prospered". "She understands how to be strong and vulnerable at the same time, how you can fight and be scared at the same time".

When the author first glimpsed Harrelson in character as her alcoholic but loving dad, she was overwhelmed. But the film will also tell a true story about a very real - and very compelling - woman: Jeannette Walls, who penned the 2005 memoir of the same name from which The Glass Castle is adapted. "But the degree to which he captured my father was breathtaking".

While the film will bring painful reminders of her past to light, Walls hopes that others can find strength in her story.

"I hope that in seeing my story, it makes people think about what they've been through", she says. If one person is willing to be courageous and tell their story, then that allows other people to be honest.
