Deadline is reporting and director Chris McQuarrie has confirmed that Academy Award-nominated actress Angela Bassett has joined the cast of Paramount's highly anticipated action sequel Mission: Impossible 6. Last season on FX's American Horror Story: Roanoke, Bassett directed the episode "Chapter 6". The Golden Globe-winning actress will play Ethan Hunt's (Tom Cruise) new Central Intelligence Agency director, though the character's name hasn't yet been revealed. She'll portray the new C.I.A. director, taking over for Alan Hunley, who took over the International Monetary Fund at the end of Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.

On April 8, McQuarrie announced on social that he lit the fuse, and kicked off production on M:I 6.
