The 1992 animated film featured late star Robin Williams as the genie who grants Aladdin his three wishes.

Next up, Smith is set to reprise his role alongside Martin Lawrence in Bad Boys 4 and Bad Boys for Life, the sequels in the Bad Boys franchise.

Disney is on a roll with the live-action adaptations of their animated classics, and Aladdin will be one of the next films to get the treatment.

The four-time Grammy award victor started out as rapper The Fresh Prince before hitting the small screen in NBC sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air in 1991.

If Smith does end up taking the part, Ritchie will have an extremely diverse film on his hands. THE VOICE cast featured Scott Weinger, Robin Williams, Linda Larkin, Jonathan Freeman, Frank Welker, Gilbert Gottfried, and Douglas Seale.

Aladdin joins other live-action adaptation musicals, including the most recent, Beauty and the Beast, which has grossed $1 billion worldwide.

Ritchie will direct from a script written by John August, the scribe who amusing enough worked with Burton on Big Fish. The last time I wrote about Will Smith, it was regarding rumors that he might be starring in Tim Burton's live action Dumbo remake that is somehow still happening.

The studio is now in the process of casting for the lead roles of Aladdin and Jasmine and, thanks to a recent casting call, it has been made clear that the studio has no interest in "whitewashing" those roles for this movie.
