Muhammad was arrested shortly after the deadly rampage.

Kori Ali Muhammad, a gunman who nicknamed himself "Black Jesus" shot and killed three strangers in a bid to kill as many white people as possible, police said.

Just hours before the shootings on Tuesday, police published a news release warning that Muhammad was armed and unsafe and wanted for the murder last week of a white motel security guard, 25-year-old Carl Williams. One post read, "Death to white supremacy and their allies", and in one song he posted on Twitter he vowed to "kill a racist devil dead. put a bullet in their head". He also told investigators he is Muslim, but he prays to seven different gods and has not been to a mosque in 25 years. All of his murder victims were white males.

Fresno Police Chief Jerry Dyer said Kori Ali Muhammad, 39, was motivated by hate and was not connected to extremism, even though he said "Allahu akbar" during his arrest. He had been asked to leave the motel and opened fire because he felt disrespected, the police chief said. He shot at Gassett, and when he fell to the ground, Muhammad walked up to him and fired two more rounds into Gassett at close range. His attorney said that Muhammad had "paranoia" and thought the justice system and his defense attorney were conspiring against him, court papers said. "As he spoke about the shootings and shooting individuals, he did so in a very callous manner and in fact, multiple times, laughed as he described what transpired", Dyer said. Police say Williams was unarmed.

He allegedly pointed the gun at three Hispanic females - a woman, her adult daughter and her 4-year-old granddaughter - who heard the gunshots and got into their vehicle, which then had trouble starting. "Carl Williams lost his life on April 13 at the Motel 6 at Blackstone and Ashlan".

Randalls lived in Clovis with his two preschool children, and elementary school teacher wife Katie, to whom he'd been married for eight years, according to the Fresno Bee. The second person killed was 37-year-old Mark Gassett who was gunned down on Fulton Street.

Muhammad was wanted in connection with the murder of a security guard at a Motel 6 last week.

Hours before the shootings, police had issued a news release saying Muhammad, who was suspected in the shooting death of a white security guard last week, was armed and risky.

Later Tuesday, Pacific Gas & Electric confirmed that one of the victims was an employee who was sitting in the passenger seat of his work truck when Muhammad allegedly shot him.
