Turkey's Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said Ankara sees the USA intervention in Syria as appropriate but not enough.

Russian Federation has condemned USA missile strikes on an airbase at Shayrat as an act of "aggression against a sovereign state in violation of global law". "That changed last night".

Haley said the US was prepared to take further action in Syria but hoped it wouldn't be necessary. The attack prompted the United States to fire 59 cruise missiles into a Syrian air base from which it said the attack was launched.

Russian Federation has warned that the USA missile strikes could have serious consequences for the region. Dr Anwar Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, said Mr Trump's actions were determined and decisive, and he noted that the use of chemical weapons was "a continuation of the heinous crimes committed by the regime against the Syrian people". "Those days are over". Advisers said he was outraged by heartbreaking images of young children who were among the dozens killed in the chemical attack.

The American political response, at this stage strongly supportive, is complicated by the fact Hillary Clinton, Trump's presidential rival, had only hours earlier suggested Syria be targeted.

The video shows the airfield in a northwestern Syrian province where the sarin gas attack is believed to have originated in ruins following the strike.

Talking on ABC's "This Week" programme, Mr Tillerson - who is expected in Moscow tomorrow for talks with Russian officials - said the U.S. expected Russia to take a tougher stance against Syria by rethinking its alliance with Mr Assad because "every time one of these horrific attacks occurs, it draws Russia closer into some level of responsibility".

"I find it very disappointing but - sadly, I have to tell you - not all that surprising".

"Lavrov stressed that an attack on a country whose government is fighting terrorism only plays into the hands of extremists (and) creates additional threats to regional and global security", the post said.

UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres urged restraint and a renewed push for peace in Syria, saying "there is no other way to solve the conflict than through a political solution".

Italy, Germany, France, Britain, Canada and Japan are likely to use the G7 summit in Tuscany to tackle Mr Tillerson about USA policy on the Middle East. Fully support United States action after deplorable chemical attacks.

A Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman described the cancelation as "absurd".

White House press secretary Sean Spicer said President Trump's decision to launch a missile strike on a Syrian air base was spurred by his view that the U.S. Syria's governmental SANA news agency said six people died, but later reported the deaths of nine civilians.

"If he needs to do more, he will do more", Haley said when asked if Trump would order more strikes.

A Syrian military source said its armed forces had also received advance warning.

Syria's ally Russian Federation says the deaths were caused when a Syrian air strike hit a depot where rebels were making chemical weapons, leading to a leak of toxic gas.

In the blighted town itself, residents mourning their dead welcomed the USA strike as a way to pressure Damascus.

According to Syrian state media, seven people, including four children, were killed in the USA air strikes.
