Pats celebrate Super Bowl win at White House

Tight End Martellus Bennett told reporters after the Super Bowl: "It is what it is".

During the White House ceremony, Trump praised individual players and their overall performance at the Super Bowl, saying that "everybody played a role and everybody played as champions". Trump also has been close over the years with Patriots owner Bob Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick. Tom Brady His statement came after word of former teammate Aaron Hernandez's suicide, but Brady did not mention him.

The NFL quarterback has a highly publicized friendship with Trump. Several had said beforehand that they would not show for political reasons. It said, "I am so happy and excited that our team is being honored at the White House today". Spicer - an avid Patriots fan - responded: "I think I got this".

The Patriots were welcomed and honored for their victory over the Atlanta Falcons in Super Bowl LI, but many players opted to skip the trip. Brady seemed to reference the visit in an Instagram post.

Brady attracted scrutiny when a red "Make America Great Again" hat - which Trump famously wore throughout his campaign - was spotted in his football locker during this past season.

Brady's reason is different, personal family matters. And, more importantly, would it be a noticeable difference from last time.

As you can clearly see in the photo above, there are slightly more people in the 2015 photo behind the president. The number of players not attending because of the president, and vocally doing so, is unprecedented. He cited a "family commitment" at the time, but there was speculation he declined because of some unflattering comments a spokesman for President Barack Obama made about the "Deflategate" scandal.
