Published along with Halo Wars 2, this new edition of the first chapter includes graphical improvements, new goals and all the DLC released with the original title on Xbox 360. The PC version will be sold through both the Windows Store and Steam. The Windows Store app lists it separately, but at last look the entry still indicated that it's "available only as part of a bundle", specifically the Halo Wars 2: Ultimate Edition package.

Microsoft has described Halo Wars: Definitive Edition as an "enhanced" version of the 2009 RTS with enhanced visuals and new Achievements. Experience the epic campaign or compete in online multiplayer battles with armies of powerful Halo forces at your command. It was released previous year as a remaster for Xbox One and PC, but it was a Windows 10 exclusive game, being sold exclusively through the Windows Store.

Halo Wars: Definitive Edition is available as an Xbox Play Anywhere title where your digital purchase of the game on the Xbox Store or Windows Store includes the other version at no additional cost.
